高分子材料稱為”elastomer”中文就是彈性體“elasticity和elastic”在英文中就是彈性和有彈性的意思。后來彈性體的含義在學術界得到了不斷的擴展，彈性體指熱塑性彈性體和不能用硫黃硫化的各種特殊飽和橡膠（于清溪.橡膠原材料手冊.化學工業(yè)出版社）。目前“彈性體”更擴展為具有彈性的聚合物的總稱；就是具有彈性的聚合物
特性：
⒈良好的抗蠕變，抗沖擊和抗疲勞性能
⒉高沖擊強度和良好的低溫柔韌性

<A title="搜索 熱塑性 相關的文章" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f00 1px solid; TEXT-DECORATION: none" onclick='javascript:window.open("../search/search_art.php?keyword=熱塑性");return false;' >熱塑性彈性體按其構成方式可分成兩大類：⑴嵌段共聚物類（苯乙烯系、共聚酯、聚氨酯、聚酰胺），⑵熱塑性塑料-彈性體共混物及合金類（熱塑性聚烯烴和熱塑性硫化物）。這兩類TPE均為兩相體系，其中熱塑性塑料硬相通過化學或力學的方式與彈性體軟相鎖接在一起，因此TPE具有兩相的綜合性能。
常見的TPE品種有：苯乙烯系（SBC或S-TPE）、烯烴系（TPO）、動態(tài)硫化合金 (TPV)、共聚酯系（TPEE或COPE）、氯乙烯系（TPVC）、聚氨酯系（TPU）、聚酰胺系（TPAE）。
熱塑性彈性體具體可分為：
⑴苯乙烯類熱塑性彈性體（Styrenic thermoplastic elastomer）；
⑵聚烯烴類熱塑性彈性體（Polyolefin thermoplastic elastomer）；
⑶聚氨酯類熱塑性彈性體（Themoplastic Polyrethane elastomer）；
⑷聚酯類熱塑性彈性體（Thermoplastic polyester elastomer）；
⑸聚酰胺熱塑性彈性體（Polyamide thermoplastic elastomer）；
⑹乙烯共聚物熱塑性彈性體（Ethylene copolymer thermoplastic elastomer）；
⑺1,2聚丁二烯熱塑性彈性體（Thermplastic 1,2-poly-butadiene elastomer）；
⑻反式聚異戊二烯熱塑性彈性體（Thermoplastictrans-polyisoprene elastomer）；
⑼熱塑性天然橡膠（Thermoplastic natural rubber）；
⑽聚氯乙烯熱塑性彈性體（Polyvinyl chloride thermoplastic elastomer）；
⑾氯化聚乙烯熱塑性彈性體（Chlorinated polythylene thermoplastic elastomer）；
⑿聚硅氧烷類熱塑性彈性體（Polysiloxane based thermoplastic elastomer）；
⒀熱塑性含氟彈性體（Thermoplastic fluoroelastomer）；
⒁離子型熱塑性彈性體（Lonic thermoplastic elastomer）；
⒂熔融加工型熱塑性彈性體（Melt Processible thermoplastic elastomer）。
